Fire department running classes

The Fire Department this week will hold fire-prevention and safety classes Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the fire station on Route 6. This session is aimed at residents of Mattapoisett Village, an historic district of old homes built close together. “There’s a lot of old construction there, and we’ll stress things like prevention, the need for smoke detectors, and our building and electrical inspectors will be on hand to answer questions,” said Fire Chief Andrew Murrray. On Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m., there will be a hands-on demonstration of how to use a fire extinguisher. “Many people have never used one, and could panic when they need to if they’ve never done it before,’’ Murray said.
