Theater performance transforms library

The library will be transformed into a theater as the Hampstead Stage Company performs “The Secret Garden,” by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. The program is for ages 3 and older. Registration opened on July 24 and the 75 spaces were filling quickly. Library officials said they were grateful to the Anderson Foundation Cultural Series for funding the program. The performance comes as the library wraps up its summer reading program. Children’s librarian Lauren Budd said children had read 1,019 hours so far. The Friends of the Library planned to make a donation to help a right whale, an endangered species, if the children read more than 1,000 hours. If another 500 hours are completed, they will make a donation to help a Komodo dragon.
