Town gets money for home repairs

The town will receive $809,000in federalmoney to renovate 26homes and pay an outreach worker. The grant, announced by Governor Deval Patrick last month, is part of $31million in Community Development Block Grantsawarded in 38communities. Avon will share its grant with West Bridgewater.Avon received a similar grant in 2009and used it to make emergency repairs and to fix substandard conditions in 24homes of low- and moderate-income residents, according to Kathleen Kelleherof Community Opportunities Group in Boston, who helped write the grant proposal this year.
