The Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path is seeking volunteers to help the town achieve the “Bicycle Friendly Community” designation from the American League of Bicyclists, said Bonne DeSousa, chairman of the group’s bike path committee. The local group will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library, and welcomes anyone interested in becoming a volunteer, she said. The designation includes a packet of information on projects, policies, and programs to promote bicycling, DeSousa said, adding, “it also means you’ve done sufficient things such as infrastructure planning, providing bike education programs, recreational opportunities, and using biking not just for recreation but transportation.” Boston, Cambridge, Arlington, Newton, Northampton, and Somerville have received this designation. For more information, call DeSousa at 508-951-2406.
