Medical marijuana moratorium to be discussed

A proposed moratorium on the location of medical marijuana dispensaries will be the focus of a joint public hearing of the Planning Board and the Town Council’s Rules and Procedures Committee on Aug. 19. The moratorium, proposed as an amendment to the town’s zoning ordinance, would be in effect through June 30, 2014. The intent of the proposal is to provide the town with the time needed to develop a permanent zoning ordinance regulating the location of dispensaries in town. The 2012 ballot law allows for up to 35 nonprofit medical marijuana centers statewide, with at least one in each county. The hearing will be held at 6:15 p.m. in the meeting room at the police station, 220 Pleasant St.
