Slots, school roof work on ballot

Voters will head to the polls for two special elections on Tuesday. One is a referendum on allowing a slot parlor at Raynham Park. In the other, voters will consider two proposed debt exclusions, or temporary tax increases, for school roof replacement projects. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for both elections. Raynham Park LLC is seeking the state’s sole license to operate a facility with up to 1,250 slot machines, and selectmen in June signed a host agreement with the company. Voter approval of the referendum is required when applying for a license, though the final decision is up to the state. The debt exclusions will cover roof replacement costs of $1.46 million at LaLiberte Elementary School and $1.42 million at the L.B. Merrill Elementary School. The Massachusetts School Building Authority has agreed to provide about 55 percent reimbursement for the projects.
