Grant creates playground shade

Children playing at the Highlands Playground will receive some protection from the sun, with the help of a $7,490 grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeves Foundation. According to Braintree’s grant writer, Barbara Mello, the town originally sought a 16-foot by 16-foot canvas cover that would provide shade to one of the handicap-accessible pieces of playground equipment. “Now, we’re looking into if we’ll be able to get more of a permanent-type structure that won’t have to be moved all the time, by trying to stretch the funds by doing our own installation,” Mello said. The town is getting quotes for other options.
