Warning over West Nile Virus

The Health Department has issued a warning to residents to take extra precautions outside after a sample of mosquitos in Middleborough revealed the West Nile Virus. In the alert, officials said testing shows increased levels of potentially dangerous mosquitoes in the surrounding region, as well. All outside events should be rescheduled to conclude before dusk; the increased mosquito risk time is dusk to dawn. Anyone going outside during that time frame should wear protective clothing with long sleeves and use mosquito repellant with DEET. Town officials continue to work with Plymouth County Mosquito Control to minimize risk, and to provide updates. For more information, call the county agency at 781-585-5450, or town health agents at 508-946-2408.
