Lack of quorum delays AC and planning position

Although special Town Meeting last week voted to balance the town’s budget, plans for a cooler town hall and hiring a consultant to help with land-use planning will have to wait because the session failed to garner a quorum. “The other items were things that we needed,” said Town Administrator Frank Lynam. “There’s not much I can do about it, though.” Lynam said that 114 voters showed up at the meeting, falling short of the needed 150 for a quorum. According to law, they were able to make the budget adjustment that was needed after voters rejected a $800,000 Proposition 2½ override this year. Votes on an additional $200,000 needed to provide air conditioning and funds for the planning position will have to be delayed until Town Meeting in the spring.
