Locals seek match for historic grant

Scituate Arts Association is looking for donations to help fund the remaining portion of a $5,000 matching grant. The grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation is intended to assist the renovation of windows in the Bailey-Ellis House, a historic property used by the association’s artists. Association president Janet Cornaccio said that this was the group’s third grant from the national trust, which demonstrates support for the association’s preservation efforts and will boost other fund-raising and grant applications. According to Cornacchio, the grant will help hire an architect who specializes in preservation to assess the condition of the windows and create a detailed restoration plan. From that point, money will be raised to rehabilitate the windows. The house’s drainage system was recently updated, and the structure was painted in historically accurate colors.
