Kingston residents and business owners are encouraged to attend a FEMA flood map workshop on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Tarkiln Community Center, 245 Summer St. in Duxbury. The federal Emergency Management Agency has recently released proposed flood maps that depict flood risks across the community. The new maps were developed after an extensive, multiyear study of Duxbury Bay, Kingston Bay, and Plymouth Bay, using state-of-the-art technology and risk modeling techniques. Officials say the new map, along with related flood risk data, will be used to update plans to protect the community from flooding and identify changes in flood risks. The workshop is intended to help residents learn how and why the local risk of flooding has changed, how the new maps will be used, and steps they can take to protect themselves from serious flood damage. A presentation and question session with town officials and regional FEMA representatives will take place from 7 to 8 p.m.
