Race in memory of Tanner Barbara

Runners and walkers will take to the streets near the Frederick C. Murphy Primary School on Saturday at 8 a.m. to honor the memory of Tanner Barbara, an 8-year-old who died unexpectedly from a viral infection a year ago. “It is fitting that we should honor Tanner with a race, because he was a kid who loved to move,” said a press release for the event. “Whether tumbling in the gym, running for touchdowns on the football field, or just roller blading with his friends in front of his house, Tanner was happiest when he was on the go.” Tanner’s mother, Becky, told friends she wanted to give back to the community for its kindness toward her family, so they organized the memorial race with all proceeds going to Weymouth charities, according to Diane Crisleo. She said about 500 participants are expected for the 5K race and one-mile walk, which starts at the Murphy school. More information and registration instructions are available at www.tannersrun.com.
