The Wareham Police Union is trying to raise money to help Officer Paul Fluegel, a 27-year veteran of the Wareham Police Department, who is battling cancer. The 52-year-old police officer has four young children and has coached youth baseball and football teams, and his family has hosted Wareham Gatemen players during the Cape Cod Baseball League season. On Sept. 27, a fund-raiser to help cover Fluegel’s medical expenses will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Box Mill Hallon Tihonet Road in Wareham. There will be music, a raffle, and a cash bar. Tickets are $25. For tickets or additional information, contact Michael Smith at 774-263-1504 or mfs@warehampolice.com.
