Marijuana moratorium approved

A year-long moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries was unanimously approved at Tuesday’s Town Council meeting. The plan will bar the facilities from the town until officials can come up with zoning regulations on where they should be placed. “At this point, it’s a temporary step to slow things down to begin to analyze and review how things are working in other communities,” said council president Chuck Kokoros. Kokoros said he didn’t know of anyone actively planning a dispensary for Braintree, but said he wouldn’t be surprised given the town’s proximity to Boston and the major routes leading through the town. Although some councilors would like to see the facilities absent from town altogether, Kokoros said he hopes to put them inside pharmacies. “There should be some dignity in being able to dispense it and it should be done through pharmacies,” he said. “The federal government has to come on the ball and come up with some changes.”
