New teachers’ contract

Town officials have reached an agreement on a teachers’ contract that calls for 1, 2, and 3 percent raises over the next three years, successively, and increases school half-days for teacher professional development efforts from the current eight days a year to 12 days. The contract, which is to be signed Oct. 3 and take effect next school year, which will begin before Labor Day. In an open letter, Superintendent Roseli Weiss said the School Committee has not yet voted on an official start date, but it will be sometime during the week before Labor Day, with no school on the Friday of the long weekend. School would then resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2, Weiss said, adding, “We are so fortunate to have an executive board and a negotiating team on both sides that have students’ best interests at heart.”
