Shannon Kwiatek, a seventh- and eighth-grade social studies teacher from Pembroke Community Middle School; and Kelly Valeri, a sixth-grade teacher from Hobomock Elementary School, received 2013 Teacher of the Year awards from the Pembroke Education Foundation. The nonprofit foundation, which raises money to support programs in the town’s public schools, received nominations from 188 students for the Teacher of the Year award, said the group’s president, Susie Schoell. Kwiatek and Valeri each received a $250 grant to use for any educational purpose, as well as a basket of supplies for their classrooms. The group is now focusing on a fund-raising road race scheduled for Oct. 27.
