Two candidates move on to general election

Thirteen percent of voters turned out in last week’s preliminary election for District One councilor, which left two candidates to compete in the November townwide election. Becky Haugh, who received 402 votes, will face Angel Montanez Jr., who received 208 votes. Both are board members of the North Weymouth Civic Association, and Haugh is a past president. Trailing them were Dominic Giannone III with 77 votes, Kevin Harris with 73, and Victor Papp III with 29. Papp withdrew from the race for health reasons, but too late to get his name off the ballot. All the candidates for town office are invited to a candidates’ forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Weymouth on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Residents are invited to submit questions for the candidates to League president Susan Abbott at sue271@comcast.net.
