Net effect of Notre Dame in D2: A contender
Behind all-state outside hitter Julia Flynn, the Cougars took two sets on the road against defending Division 1 state champ Barnstable Tuesday night. No other team has won a set against the Red Raiders this season. Can
Flynn’s thunderous spike, along the stellar all-around play of sophomores Avery Spaziani and Corinne Cox, a transfer from Michigan, lead the Cougars to a Division 2 state title?
A rebuilding year for Canton?
After graduating nearly every key player from last year’s 21-1 squad that captured the Division 2 Central title, including Hockomock League MVP Julia Murphy, coach Pat Cawley says her young group has potential but lacks experience. Can junior setter Erin Proctor and senior outside hitter Ellie Teague team up with hitter Avery Devoe to build a contender?
Flaherty making an impressive debut at North Quincy
Isabelle Flaherty is just a freshman at North Quincy, but her statistics belie that fact. In her team’s 6-0 start, she has racked up 11 aces (second on the team), 25 kills (third on team), with only five errors. She has a .345 hitting percentage, which is fourth best on the club. Will the young Flaherty be able to continue her success paired opposite senior Carolyn Schwartz, a four-year varsity player, in the middle row? A showdown against rival Quincy looms Monday night.
Bright year for Duxbury program’s third season?
In its third year as a varsity program, the Dragons won their first five matches. Junior outside hitter Mackenzie Bright, a member of the varsity since her freshman season, has been a standout. And junior libero, Sam Chaisson, a transfer from Florida, is a solid addition.
A veteran presence at Plymouth South
