Designer search for Gates project

Scituate school officials have begun a search for a designer to move the Gates Middle School project to the next step. The designer, expected to be chosen by November, will help compile cost estimates and lay out plans to solve the middle school’s woes, with solutions that could include anything from renovating the existing building to building anew elsewhere in town. With plans in hand, and hopefully with Massachusetts School Building Authority buy-in, officials hope to approach the town during the 2014 Fall Town Meeting to fund the project. “Basically, a year from now is what we’re looking at,” said Paul Donlan, director of business and finance for Scituate public schools. “And we’ll have schematic design and be ready to go, put a stake in the ground, and say this is what we want.”
