Route 1 sobriety check nabs nine

Nine people were arrested at a sobriety checkpoint on Route 1 last weekend by Norwood and State police. Six of the arrests were made for operating under the influence of alcohol and one was for operating under the influence of drugs. Two arrests were made for outstanding warrants. Police noted that in two of the cases in which drivers were arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, sober licensed drivers were in the passenger seats. Heavy fog caused the operation to be shut down a couple hours early because of safety concerns.
