Town launches online calendar

The town has added a calendar of events component to its website, that provides listings of governmental meetings as well as events by the town, the council on aging, and the recreation department. Town Manager Paul A. Dawson said the calendars are in keeping with what many other area towns do, and should make it easier for groups planning events to avoid booking on days when other events are happening. “Because we’re a small town, it’s become common to schedule things when other events are happening, such as a public hearing when something else is going on,” Dawson said. “Having a central place for calendar listings will be quite useful for all of us.” He said the town clerk’s office is in charge of keeping the calendars updated. The concept for the townwide calendar was the work of four groups, Dawson said: the Friends of the Council on Aging, the Marion Recreation Commission, Elizabeth Taber Library, and Sippican Historical Society.
