Seniors can work off taxes


Applications are available for the Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off Program, which allows people age 60 and older to perform community service for the town in exchange for up to a $750 reduction in taxes on Mattapoisett property they own and occupy. Applications are available online through by clicking on the Council on Aging icon. The available jobs include clerical, administration, accounting, research, computer skills, building maintenance, driving, carpentry, and receptionist. Applicants must work a total of 93¾ hours between Nov. 1, 2013, and Oct. 31, 2014, to get the maximum $750 deduction. Applications can also be picked up at the Council on Aging, 17 Barstow St., and the deadline to apply is 3 p.m. Friday.
