Abandoned home transformed

Local and state officials recently toured a Laureston Street property that a year ago was abandoned. Since then, the two-family home has been rehabbed and purchased, thanks to the Abandoned Property Initiative with the state Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office. Coakley and Mayor Linda Balzotti last week toured the home, which is one of 50 citywide to undergo a transformation. Coakley also announced that Brockton is receiving a $100,000 grant to help the city identify and prioritize bank-owned properties, and then work with the owners to ensure that they are promptly returned to productive residential use.
