The widening of Route 18 will be the subject of a hearing being held by the Abington Conservation Commission, the state Department of Transportation, and the town of Weymouth on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Weymouth Town Hall. The state is planning a $37.6 million expansion of the roadway from two lanes to four from Highland Place in Weymouth, near Route 3, to Route 139 in Abington. Plans include a temporary bridge over railroad tracks running below Route 18. Concerns over a species of turtles contributed to the placement of the temporary bridge, according to state officials.
