A Holbrook parents group has awarded grants to three teachers at Holbrook Junior-Senior High School for special projects. Group co-chairwoman Maggie Brady said the $250 grants from the Holbrook Junior Senior Parent Group will go to English teacher Stephanie Kipp for a digital camera for the school newspaper, to science teacher Jason Welch so students can raise northern red-bellied cooters for release into the wild, and to Mathematics Department head Karin McDonough for a graphing calculator compatible with the interactive “white boards” used to display computer images in the classroom. Brady said five other projects were submitted for consideration, and the group would like to support them with future fund-raising. The group has 12 to 15 active members and communicates with parents via a Facebook page, she said.
