Bridge makes repair list

The repair of Westwood’s East Street Bridge has been placed on a list of priority repairs by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, which provides rail service over it. Local officials are celebrating the decision after a series of accidents and mishaps over the years resulting from the structure’s narrow width and low clearance of 10 feet, six inches. The town will work with the state on a design, and work will be funded through the state Department of Transportation’s Accelerated Bridge Program. In the interim, signs have been installed that warn of low clearance, and trucks and buses are diverted to other routes.
