Selectman may apply for administrator job

Selectman William Heitin confirmed in an interview that fellow board member Richard Powell is considering applying for the job of town administrator. A screening committee has been working on an advertisement for the position that is expected to be posted this week, and Powell has recused himself from related actions by the Board of Selectmen in order to avoid the appearance of a conflict if he decides to apply, Heitin said. He said he believed Powell had not made a final decision; Powell could not be reached for comment last week. Town Administrator Benjamin Puritz is leaving the post this month, but has indicated he is willing to assist the town until Town Meeting in May, Heitin said. The selectmen will consider appointing an interim administrator to serve until a permanent replacement is hired, he said.
