Healey returns as town administrator

There will be a new, but familiar, face in the corridors of Town Hall next month. Jack Healey, former interim town administrator in Freetown, is returning to fill the position currently held by Richard Brown, who is leaving June 30. Selectmen last week voted unanimously to hire Healey, 70, as town administrator for three years. Even though he is only being paid as a part-time employee — something he said is necessary because of his retirement status after serving as a town administrator in various communities for more than 30 years — Healey said he will work full-time. His contract, which is still being finalized, calls for Healey to be paid $1,000 a week the first year, $1,100 a week the second year, and $1,200 a week the third year. He retired in 2007 and most recently served as town administrator in Westport. Healey, who is married with three children and five grandchildren, lives in Middleborough, where he served as town administrator for 22 years. He begins his new position July 8.
