A new meeting room on the second floor of the old firehouse connected to Town Hall is nearly complete, and should be ready to host selectmen’s meetings within a few weeks, Town Administrator William Phelan said in an interview. Quarters are tight in the old selectmen’s meeting room in Town Hall, where audiences often spill into the hallway. Phelan said the new room has hardwood floors, crown moldings, and chandeliers, and that the work, done in part by inmates, is impressive. The old firehouse will also hold offices and a bathroom. Once it is occupied, work can begin on Town Hall, he said. The town hopes to renovate the grand hall on the top floor, which has a stage and an ornate ceiling.
