East Bridgewater names building commissioner

East Bridgewater recently filled its position of building commissioner, when selectmen appointed Patrick Franey to the job.

The Middleborough resident, who begins work on Sept. 5, replaces Steven Solari, who resigned earlier this year to take another position in a different community.

Robert Kirby served as interim building commissioner for several months after Solari’s departure, and Edward Gardner, who was formerly East Bridgewater’s building commissioner, has been serving in the interim role since then.

Selectmen chose Franey after interviewing him and four other finalists for the job, according to Town Administrator George Samia.

Franey served as a local inspector for the town of Barnstable from July 2012 until now and is a member of the board of directors of the Massachusetts Federation of Building Officials.

Samia said that Franey stood out among the applicants because he offers both an ability to work well with the public and a good knowledge of state building codes and laws.
