Library to exhibit contest portraits of locals

Faces of people who live and work in Dedham will be the focus of a photography exhibit at the Dedham Public Library next month, the result of a townwide photography portrait contest.

The show will be juried by Paula Tognarelli, executive director and curator of the Griffin Photography Museum in Winchester, and is sponsored by the Dedham Square Artists Guild and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Greg Jundanian, a Dedham resident and avid amateur photographer, came up with the idea of a townwide photography project with the lens turned to local faces.

“I’ve always felt the most interesting people are those around you at arm’s length,” he said, adding that the goal was to build community and tap into the creative talent in Dedham. “Everybody has a camera now in their phone, so I thought it made sense,” he said.

The juried show will be displayed at the Dedham Public Library, 43 Church St., from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15.
