Cohasset Town Meeting will decide in December whether to move forward with plans to renovate and add on to the town hall.
The warrant for the Dec. 4 special Town Meeting includes a request for up to $300,000 to do more detailed analysis of the site and design.
The current plan is projected to cost about $12.8 million and calls for renovating the older section of the town hall, which was built in 1857 and renovated in 1928. A 1987 annex to the building would be torn down and replaced with a new two-story addition.
The Town Hall Renovation Advisory Committee originally had asked Town Meeting to approve spending just over $1 million to produce final design documents; it is responding to push back from other local boards that wanted more analysis of the plan.
The town has been considering what to do about its town hall for about a decade, after studies showed the building was in serious disrepair, inefficient, and difficult to navigate.Johanna Seltz can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
