Needham artist paints scenes on antique linens

Retired math teacher Marian Hoffart did not even begin painting until she was 60 years old. Now, her work focuses on re-creating photos and other images from her parents’ and grandparents’ lives through oil painting on a most unusual background: Instead of traditional canvas, she paints on the handkerchiefs, tablecloths and hand towels her grandmother left her. Her current exhibit, “Continuum, Art of Marian Hoffart,’’ is now on view at the Amazing Things Art Center in Framingham. In addition, numerous New Year’s Eve events will be taking place around the region on Saturday, including dance, music an d comedy.
