Swap shop on agenda Tuesday

The future of the swap shop at the town’s transfer station may be decided during this week’s Board of Selectmen meeting. The swap shop was originally scheduled to close for good Dec. 1, but selectmen decided to extend the deadline until next Saturday after a public outcry in support of the longstanding institution. Department of Public Works officials announced plans to close the operation a few months ago, citing traffic problems caused by residents competing for items dropped off during busy transfer station hours, and general abuse of the swap shop’s policies. The selectmen are scheduled to discuss the shop’s future during their public meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Town House, 17 Common St.
