Renewal in works for Wellesley Square

Town initiative pays off with influx of tenants

Empty storefronts are filling up again in Wellesley Square. After a steady stream of closings that left the heart of Wellesley’s downtown shopping area spotted with vacancies, new businesses are arriving. J. P. Licks, Isabel Harvey, Lacrosse Unlimited, and Gustare Oils and Vinegars have moved in to Central Street, lighting up dark storefronts.

It's about the parking and lack thereof. I rarely go into downtown Wellesley for that reason. If you're fortunate enough to find a convenient space and you're 1 minute late getting back to your meter, there's the meter maid/man ticketing you. Even if you can't climb a high, slippery snowbank to get to the meter, you get a ticket. One time, I had just parked and was getting quarters out of my purse. I hear banging on my window. It's the meter maid asking for my money!!! IMO, Wellesley would do more business if it were much more user friendly.
