Relay For Life kickoff set for next week

The local Relay for Life organization will launch its annual fund-raising effort for the American Cancer Society with a rally at Temple Beth Shalom on Feb. 13. The relay itself will take place on June 16 and 17 at Bobby Conroy Field at DeFazio Park. Participants will walk laps around the track, with teammates taking turns as the effort continues overnight. Needham’s Relay is one of more than 95 planned for this year in Massachusetts, according to an announcement by the American Cancer Society. The events are expected to raise more than $11 million to support cancer research and provide services for cancer patients, including transportation and treatments. Anyone who wants to participate should go to the rally on Feb. 13, where people can form teams, volunteer to work the event, or join the planning committee. A local cancer survivor will also speak. Temple Beth Shalom is at 670 Highland Ave. The rally will begin at 7 p.m. - Evan Allen
