Crowded fields for local offices

Competition could be heavy in the race for local offices in Arlington this year, as five candidates have obtained nomination papers for two selectmen’s seats, and eight potential candidates have pulled papers for two seats on the School Committee. The candidates have until Tuesday to return their nomination papers to the registrars of voters to have signatures certified. The annual town election will be held on April 10. With selectwomen Clarissa Rowe and Annie LaCourt not running for reelection, five candidates have pulled papers to fill their seats. The candidates include School Committee member Joseph Curro, former School Committee member Joseph Curran, Upland Road resident Steven Byrne, Alton Street resident A. Michael Ruderman, and Inverness Road resident Robert Tosi. For the School Committee, incumbents Cindy Starks and Jeffrey Thielman have taken out nomination papers along with potential challengers Gregory Brogan of Melrose Street, James Flanagan of Trowbridge Street, Sean Harrington of Woodside Lane, A. Matthew Pallett of Winchester Road, Ian Jackson of Highland Avenue, and Andrew O’Brien of Hillside Avenue. - Brock Parker
