Three-town meeting March 28

Super Town Meeting sessions have been scheduled for March 28 in Shirley, Ayer, and Harvard to decide on plans to use part of the former Fort Devens military property for residential housing. The Vicksburg Square development calls for 246 apartments, with 80 percent of them set aside for renters earning less than the area’s median income. Veterans will get preference, and some units will be set aside for seniors. The $83 million project by Trinity Financial LLC requires changes to zoning bylaws and the Devens Reuse Plan in order to convert Vicksburg Square’s 1920s military buildings into housing. While the Massachusetts Development Finance Agency controls the Devens property, the host towns must OK any major zoning changes. The deadline to register to vote in Shirley, and be eligible to take part in the Super Town Meeting, is Friday. Shirley’s gathering will be held in the Ayer Shirley Regional Middle School auditorium at 7 p.m. March 28, the same time that the meetings will be held in Ayer and Harvard. For more information on the project, see www.vicksburgsquare.com. - Jose Martinez
