Ciccone is named fire chief

Paul J. Ciccone, a 27-year veteran of the Waltham Fire Department, was unanimously approved by the City Council to become the department’s new chief. Mayor Jeannette McCarthy made the appointment. Ciccone started his career as a firefighter in 1985, and was promoted to lieutenant in 1991. In 2002, he attained the rank of captain, and in 2009 was appointed deputy chief of the Training Department; since then, he had been named head of the training program. He succeeds Richard Cardillo, who retired as chief last year after 35 years with the Fire Department.
