No ban on leaf blowers

Annual Town Meeting wrapped up last week with a vote against a ban on gasoline-powered leaf blowers, and a standing vote in favor of allowing the town to impose liens on properties encroaching onto town-owned land, according to the town clerk’s office. The proposed leaf-blower ban would have restricted the commercial use of gasoline-powered machines. The article giving the Board of Selectmen the authority to impose municipal liens on property that encroaches on town land was approved 112-96. The Board of Selectmen will only impose a lien if the property owner is unwilling or unable to correct the encroachment or to pay the costs of correction, and only after a hearing, according to the town clerk’s office. Town Meeting members also voted to allocate $220,000 for a new transfer building at the recycling facility, $480,000 to reconstruct Bacon Street, and $330,000 to the Housing Development Corporation for community housing, the town clerk’s office said.
