Collecting hazardous waste

A household hazardous-waste collection day for residents of Dover and Medfield will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 28 at the Medfield Town Garage on Route 27, north of its intersection with Route 109. Pesticides, herbicides, toxic chemicals, auto waste such as antifreeze, gasoline and motor oil, photographic chemicals, and oil-based paint will be collected. Latex paint will not be accepted. Excess or outdated prescription medications can be dropped anonymously into a collection box in the lobby of the Dover police station. Disposing properly of prescription medications, particularly addictive painkillers such as morphine, codeine, and oxycodone, is an important tool in preventing abuse, according to an announcement by local police and the Norfolk district attorney’s office. - Ellen Ishkanian
