Andover

Town designated a Tree City

Andover was among 84 communities recently presented with the 2011 Tree City USA Award by the state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation. The awards, sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation, recognize communities that devoted resources to planting and caring for trees. To receive the designation, municipalities must establish a department dedicated to tree care, spend at least $2 per capita annually on urban forestry, enforce laws that protect trees, and host an Arbor Day celebration. This marks Andover’s 13th year participating in the tree program. Last year the town sustained several tree losses after an October nor’easter.
