Town Meeting starts Monday

A proposed $23.3 million budget for fiscal 2013, which starts July 1, is among the key items coming before the annual Town Meeting that begins Monday in the Middle/Senior High School gymnasium. As part of the budget, the Finance Committee proposes to eliminate salaries — and hence benefits — for all elected officials except the town clerk. The meeting will consider other funding requests, including $450,000 to purchase a firetruck, $111,025 to purchase a truck for the Forestry Department, and $77,000 to continue renovations to Town Hall. Meanwhile, a proposed $6,100 appropriation to study the condition of the library building is among the items that will come before a Special Town Meeting that will be held as part of the annual meeting.
