Town seeks land for new park

The deadline is approaching for property owners with a potential location for Upton's next new park. The Board of Selectmen will take proposals until June 18 in its search for land to buy. The location of the park, to be used for recreational and athletics purposes, must meet the town's parameters: 30 acres minimum, flat or gently sloping preferred, with 150 feet or more of frontage along a public way (a primary road being the ideal). The site must also meet utilities-hookup requirements, and conform in other ways to town bylaws and regulations. For a complete list of the proposal specifications, visit the procurement page at www.upton.ma.us. While there is no money set aside for the purchase of the property, in the request for proposals officials suggest that a Town Meeting vote could include sources such as Community Preservation Act funds and grants.
