High school freshmen to start laptop initiative

Incoming ninth-graders at Hopkinton High School this fall will launch the district’s 1-1 laptop initiative, which calls for each student to have access to a laptop computer during classes every day. The School Committee on June 14 unanimously approved moving forward with the initiative for the class of 2016 during its four years of high school, according to an announcement. Participation by future classes will depend on parent support and evaluation of the program next spring. The district has received a commitment from 83 percent of the incoming freshmen to either lease a laptop from the district or bring their own to school, surpassing the 80 percent goal set by the administration. Students otherwise will be able to use a school-owned laptop during classes each day.
