Selectmen to discuss notification system

Selectmen on July 17 will discuss guidelines on how and when to use the town’s mass telephone notification system. In the past, Maynard officials have used the system for storm and flood warnings, as well as heat advisories. It has also sometimes been used in nonemergency situations, such as announcing Town Meeting and festival dates. “We get kind of a blowback from people calling in saying, ‘We don’t want this unless it’s an emergency,’ ” said Town Administrator Michael Sullivan. “We need some clear guidelines as to how we should use it.”
