Youth and Family Services department director Sue Baldauf and Eliot Community Human Services clinical director Deborah Garfield met recently with the Board of Selectmen to discuss the renewal of a longstanding contract to provide mental health services to Bedford residents. Baldauf told the selectmen that the contract has been renewed annually for 21 years, and that both town staff and residents commend the quality of services Eliot provides. The contract has recently undergone extensive review and revision by the town counsel, whose recommendations do not change the services provided but seek to clarify wording on several points. The selectmen raised the possibility of extending the contract for three years, and agreed that option should be explored before the next contract is drafted. The board voted unanimously to approve this year’s $37,000 contract with Eliot Community Human Services Inc. through June 30, 2013.
