Story Walk features ‘Sheep on a Hike’ this week

With the third annual Story Walk sponsored by the Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library and the town’s Parks and Recreation Department, children of all ages can enjoy “Sheep on a Hike,” the featured book this year, while walking on the paved trail around Jordan Pond this week. Pages from the book are posted at various stations along the trail, which is one-third of a mile. The stations will be available from 9 a.m. Monday until Friday at 3 p.m. The trail for children and sheep begins at the Ridgeland Road entrance to the park. As readers move along the path, children and their families can take in the rhyming story by Nancy Shaw, and the illustrations of Margot Apple depicting the silly sheep and their hiking misadventures. The story, part of a series that includes “Sheep in a Jeep” and “Sheep in a Shop,” also features a sea gull who follows the sheep on the trail. The story has a surprise ending, according to Ellen M. Dolan, the library’s director, so children will want to follow the tale to the end of the trail.
