Cooling resources for seniors

The Council on Aging is reminding seniors of resources available to them during the hot summer months. The Beech Street Center is available as a cooling center during its regular hours of operation, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. On very hot days, according to Nava Niv-Vogel, the Council on Aging’s director, the center sometimes extends its hours. For seniors who need assistance with funding for air conditioning costs, the council can provide referrals. The council is also able to lend fans to seniors who do not have air conditioning. Seniors who need respite from the heat overnight can call the council, which can provide referrals. To reach the Council on Aging, call 617-993-2970.
