Fitness classes, road races in town

Local organizations are offering several health-boosting activities this month. Free fitness classes are held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the library lawn, 609 Main St. The program, sponsored by the Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library and All-Access Fitness Academy, is structured for all fitness levels, and open to anyone high-school age or older with a Shrewsbury library card. Call 508-842-0081, ext. 5, for more information. And the town’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a 5K road race and 1-mile fun run Saturday to benefit its special needs program. Both routes start and finish at the Floral Street School, 54 Floral St., with registration opening at 7:30 a.m. The Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K race at 9 a.m.  If you register for the race before Wednesday, you can save $5 off the $25 entry fee. The first 100 registered participants will receive a free T-shirt, and first-place finishers in all divisions will receive awards. E-mail pholdash@yahoo.com for more information.
